About Us:
Island Crisis Care Society (ICCS) is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing shelter, care, and resources to individuals experiencing or at risk of homelessness. Since the 1980s, ICCS has grown to offer innovative programs that meet the diverse needs of the Nanaimo community while staying true to its mission: “To provide shelter and care to those in need, reflecting the love of God in loving one another.”
One of our newest initiatives, the Rising Hope Community Kitchen, launched in early 2024 to enhance food security, foster local entrepreneurship, and promote food education. This program provides space and resources for local food entrepreneurs, job placement opportunities, and educational programs, contributing to a healthier and more sustainable community.
Position Overview:
The Rising Hope Community Kitchen Program Manager is a vital role responsible for the daily operations and strategic direction of the Community Kitchen. You will oversee compliance, standard operating procedures, renter onboarding, and financial health while collaborating with internal teams to maintain a thriving and respectful environment. Reporting to the Director of People, Culture & Engagement, you will play a pivotal role in fostering food security, entrepreneurship, and community connection.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Community Kitchen, ensuring smooth and efficient workflows.
- Design, implement, and maintain standard operating procedures to ensure compliance with safety and operational standards.
- Recruit, onboard, and support renters, ensuring they understand and respect facility guidelines.
- Manage the financial health of the Community Kitchen, including budgeting, reporting, and monitoring expenditures.
- Collaborate with ICCS’s maintenance and finance teams to address operational needs and ensure seamless integration with broader organizational goals.
- Foster a positive and collaborative environment among renters, staff, and community partners.
- Develop and evaluate program outcomes, providing regular reports to leadership.
- Act as the primary contact for the Community Kitchen, addressing inquiries and resolving issues promptly.
- Support educational and community initiatives related to food security and entrepreneurship.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as business administration, food services, or community development. A combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Experience: At least three years of experience in program management, kitchen operations, or a related field. Experience in the non-profit sector is an asset.
- Skills: Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Knowledge of food safety regulations and standards.
- Proficiency in budget management and operational planning.
- Demonstrated ability to foster collaboration and resolve conflicts.
- High emotional intelligence and commitment to ICCS’s values of care, compassion, and heart.
