JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Executive Director and serving as an integral member of the Villa Cathay
Care Home (VCCH) leadership team, the Manager, Support Services oversees all aspects
food, housekeeping, laundry, and janitorial services in strict adherence to established
regulations, food safety, and infection control guidelines, and with the mission, vision, and
values of VCCH. The Manager provides comprehensive oversight, supervision, constructive
guidance, and exemplary leadership to both direct and indirect reports. Additionally, the
Manager is responsible for enhancing support services, advocating for resident and family
satisfaction, and leading the team in adopting a personcentered care approach.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1.
Ensures compliance with organizationwide and sitespecific standard operating
policies, procedures, and quality controls for food, housekeeping, and laundry
services.

2.
Leads the development of operational plans and goals for each Support Services
department consistent with the VCCH’s mission and strategic plan. Collaborate with
the Executive Director and interdisciplinary leadership team to develop action plans.
3. Develops and manages the departmental budget, ensuring cost controls and inventory
management. Create budgets for special events as needed.

4.
Gathers and analyzes performance indicators and surveys; report to the leadership
team as required to fulfil accreditation and quality standards.

5.
Oversees the preparation and service of highquality food using standardized operating
procedures, industry standards, and related internal and external policies.

6.
Establishes and maintains inventory supply levels to minimize spoilage, loss, and
waste.

7.
Develops procurement procedures and policies. Oversees sourcing, ordering, and
receiving of goods and services.

8.
Recruits, hires, appraises, coaches and disciplines staff. Recommends and
participates in the termination of staff following HR policies.

9.
Develops and delivers new staff orientation and inservice training to maintain work
standards. Evaluates staff work performance & recommends strategies for
improvements strategies.

10.
Ensures resident satisfaction through surveys, meal rounds and regular
communication. Maintains a customer service focus by developing and maintaining a
strong knowledge of resident preferences and incorporates those preferences into
service delivery.

11.
Facilitates ongoing communication with all stakeholders at the site including
administration, nursing, residents, and their families.

12.
Designs menus for daily service as well as for special functions ensuring compliance
with regulations, and meeting residents’ nutritional and therapeutic needs and
preferences.

13.
Develops and/or adjusts standardized recipes to ensure consistent highquality
production outcomes including food safety, quality, nutritional & texture requirements,
quantity, portion sizes, and resident satisfaction.

14.
Chairs regular department meetings and participates in facilitybased meetings such as
site leadership, OH & S as required.

15.
Implements and maintains a Food Safety Plan, HACCP, WHIMIS, workplace safety
regulations workplace.

16.
Prepares and implements contingency plans for emergencies or service interruptions.
17.
Collaborates with other departments to plan & deliver special events and programs as
required. May participate in Resident Council as required.
Completes other duties related to the position as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training & Experience

Graduation from a recognized program in Nutrition and Food Services Management.
Membership in the Canadian Society of Nutrition Management or Registered Dietician
mandatory.

Food Safe Level 1 mandatory; Level 2 an asset.
Minimum of five years supervisory experience in Support Services (Food Services /
HSPK & LNDY) in a geriatric residential setting, including staff management. Experience
with unionized staff is beneficial.

Proficiency in conflict resolution and maintaining a harmonious work environment.
Competence in operating kitchen, housekeeping, and laundry equipment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to build positive relationships with staff, residents, families, volunteers, and
visitors.

Physical and psychological capability to fulfill job duties.
Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Additional Information

Must provide a clear criminal record check to work with vulnerable adults.
Ability to work remotely and outside normal business hours may be required.

Salary
$85,000$90,000/year
