Food Services Manager
Nanaimo, BC, Canada
Job Description
Long-Term Care | Nanaimo, Vancouver Island, BC
Food is far more than a meal in long-term care.
It is comfort. Dignity. Identity. Connection, it’s daily experiences that nurture and bring joy.
We are seeking an accomplished Food Services Manager to lead and elevate dining services in our long-term care community. This is an operational leadership role for someone who understands that exceptional food service is essential to quality of life, clinical outcomes, and resident well-being as we age.
Shift details: Tuesday to Saturday
The Opportunity
As Food Services Manager, you will have full accountability for the food services operation, leading a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, nutritious, culturally responsive, and genuinely enjoyable meals — every day, every service.
You will bring together hospitality excellence, clinical awareness, regulatory rigor, and compassionate leadership to create a dining experience that residents look forward to and families trust.
This role is ideal for a leader who is motivated by purpose, thrives in complex environments, and takes pride in building strong teams and systems that last.
What You Will Be Responsible For
- Leading all aspects of food services within a long-term care environment, including operations, people leadership, budgeting, quality improvement, and regulatory compliance
- Designing and executing menus that balance nutrition, texture modification, cultural preferences, and resident choice
- Creating a dining experience that supports dignity, autonomy, and enjoyment, even as physical and cognitive needs change
- Recruiting, coaching, and developing a high-performing food services team grounded in accountability, respect, and pride in their work
- Partnering closely with clinical, care, and leadership teams to align food services with resident care plans and organizational goals
- Ensuring compliance with all applicable BC long-term care regulations, food safety standards, and occupational health requirements
- Driving continuous improvement in food quality, service delivery, resident satisfaction, and team engagement
What You Bring
- Proven leadership experience in food services, ideally within healthcare, long-term care, or a highly regulated hospitality environment
- Strong culinary foundation with the ability to translate nutrition requirements into appealing, resident-centred meals
- Demonstrated ability to lead unionized or diverse teams with clarity, fairness, and empathy
- A deep understanding of — or strong desire to learn — the unique needs of aging adults and the role food plays in health, memory, and joy
- Confidence, resilience, and professionalism to lead through change and raise standards
- A values-driven approach: you care about people, outcomes, and doing things the right way
